My wife and I recently completed a Chapter 7 after fighting to stay on top of our debts for 6 years after we were told we should file. Would the bankruptcy disqualify me for a position as a Foriegn Service Specialist? Would the years we tried to avoid the chapter 7 and pay our creditors matter? Would it matter that we stopped using credit entirely 3 or 4 years ago?

Hi, Tim.
Each case is considered on a case by case basis as part of the background security investigation and Final Review for Suitability. We cannot, therefore, speculate on your specific situation. If your candidacy proceeds to the point where you pass the Oral Assessment and meet with a background security investigator, you will need to provide him or her with details of your situation so that all factors can be considered.

Thank you. This is the best I was hoping for, just wanted to make sure I wasn't wasting my time altogether and you've indicated I wouldn't be.
