Hello,
I know that candidates are encouraged to make a thoughtful decision when choosing career tracks, but I'm curious--- if someone becomes an FSO and realizes over the course of several tours that they would be better suited to another track, is it possible to apply to switch tracks? If yes, would the process involve retaking the examination in another track?
Thank you.

If you are interested in working in another career track, there are possibilities to do an assignment or two in that track. You may apply to officially switch tracks but the chances of that actually happening are very small.

Hello,
In regards to that question and your response--- if it's difficult to apply to switch once someone has started in a certain cone, is it possible to reapply and redo the whole process to get into another one (if one is able to pass the test again)?
Thank you.

Just to clarify--- I mean to say, it sounds like from your answer that it's hard to have a position in a certain cone and then apply to transfer to a different one. In that case, if someone already is an FSO in a certain cone and the transfer process is unlikely, is it still allowed to retake the FSOT and the OA and try to start from scratch to get into a new cone?

You can certainly begin from the beginning while in the Foreign Service. I have not heard of anyone doing so.

You can ask ACT, the test administrator. The email address is: fsot@ACT.org

You should also be able to look at your registration information from the ACT website. Log in and see if you can access it.
