Can anyone suggest a helpful study guide to prepare for the fsot? I used the cliffnotes fsot guide, and did not find it to be very helpful once I took the test earlier this year.

thank you!

Some people find the ACT Study Guide to be useful. For ordering information please click here:
http://careers.state.gov/officer/selection-process
Then, under #3 Take the Foreign Service Officer Test, click on "Test Resources and Information." You will find the link there.

I purchased the "Study Guide" from ACT, and would recommend that you do so, although I didn't find it to be more in depth than the study questions in the "Guide to the Foreign Service Selection Process," maybe just more of them. I also read the books recommended on this website, and found "Career Diplomacy" to be particularly helpful. I also read one of those “Government for Dummies” books. Of course, you should brush up on current events; I read "U.S. News and World Report" (now out of print), and the international section of my daily newspaper. Finally, I spent a lot of time looking at maps of the world, and had a good handle on which country was where. These efforts yielded a 179 on the test, which I’m told is a decent score. Unfortunately, I didn’t make it past the PN, but if I decide to pursue this again I think I could still do well on the test. Good luck!
