I am wondering how long it takes from the date you are referred to the hiring manager, to be contacted\invited for the Oral Assessment? Also is there a schedule start date for the next sixteen-week training for the new hires to the Information Management Specialist position?
Thank you for getting in touch with us.
Due to the number of applicants referred to the Qualification Evaluation Panel, that process can take up to several weeks. Those who pass that process will then be contacted to schedule an Oral Assessment. Those that pass the Oral Assessment will then undergoing a background security investigation process pursuant to the required security clearance. That process can take a couple of months to several months, depending on the background of the individual. The pre-employment medical exam can be taken concurrently. After the background security investigation process has been completed, the applicant's entire file (excluding medical exam results) will be reviewed to determine suitability for the Foreign Service. Those that pass that stage will then have their names added to the appropriate rank ordered Register. One may remain on the Register for up to 18 months. As the process can be quite lengthy you would likely not be eligible for the next orientation/training class.
When is the next scheduled training class for IMTS new hire?
Please check with your contact in the Registrar's office. He or she can give you the latest information on your register status, and advise you about upcoming classes.
If a canidiate was not selected for OA for the FSS IMS position ending date 12/31/10, will they be notified and if so what is the timeframe?
Yes, you will be notified whether or not you are selected to takethe Oral Assessment. There were hundreds of applications for the position, and it will take some time to review them all to determine the most competitive candidates. While we can't give you a precise timeframe for notification, you will probably hear something within the next several weeks.
Is it normal for this entire process to take years? I first applied in March of 2009. I have had my Oral Assessment and got the Medical Clearance, Security Clearance and I my file is currently in suitability and has been for several months. It just seems that 2 years is a little long for the hiring process, especially since after all of that time I will just be put on the Registry list.
Unfortunately, sometimes it does take this long, although it is not usual. If you write to FSOAQuestions@state.gov with your full name, SSN, and career track, we may be able to answer you more specifically. Most candidates get on the Register 8-12 months after taking the FSOT. Thank you.
Thank you, I just sent the email.
I wouldn't recommend having people send their SSN through email.
