Greetings!
I have not yet proceeded to the Oral Interview or passed the QEP PNQs yet. However, I just thought of two pertinent questions to the background check I would like to ask.
1. I have lived in Taiwan for the last 18 years. I am a patriot and while I have obtained my degrees here in Taiwan and do have an attachment to this place and its people as well as its plight, I still first and foremost a patriotic US citizen and believe in protecting US interests. Would my experience overseas be an impediment to passing the background check (or any other Federal job requiring TSC)?
2.My wife is not a US citizen. She is from Taiwan (a nation not recognized diplomatically, so from the US point of view she has no country). She is rather apolitical, but still very pro-American and anti-PRC. She is also the mother of two US citizens. Would this be an impediment to passing the background check (or any other Federal job requiring TSC)?
Thank you to whoever will answer my questions.
Sincerely,
Ivan Zimmer

Hi Ivan,
I am not a "green check mark" but I believe that the fact that you have lived in Taiwan and married a native would not automatically disqualify you for a TSC. They will investigate you fully to see if you have any "other" reasons for disqualifications. I worked for DS as an EFM Office Manager for 7 years and understand the Background check process a bit since I processed them overseas during that time. DS might have some other information that I am personally not aware of but while you are waiting for more information, I hope that this will help put your mind at ease a little. There may be some limitations in areas you can work once you are hired, but I am not sure. Also, your wife will be able to apply for citizenship at some point as well.

Each security clearance determination is made only after a background investigation and review of your entire file. Do not try to self-adjudicate ahead of time.
