Just yesterday, I received a notification from the State Dept. concernig my application. I did not make the second round of selection. My heart is broken since I was really looking forward to the opportunity. I'm getting "up in years" and may not see another opportunity like this, ever! Their loss, not mine, unfortunately! I hope they get someone who can give them what I offered, besides my twenty-four years of military experience, my abilities, akills, and life experiences...and they still have the guts to say they give opportunity to veterans. A bunch of bull...Good luck to those of you seeking the same opportunity. Charge on and don't give up!

Veteran's preference has an affect after one is on the register.

Julio, I hear you. I recently found out I didn't make the cut for the Spanish CA position, which I understand... Yet I was left wondering what exactly the position is looking for.
I speak Spanish fluently, I have experience interviewing people in English and Spanish (I'm a former newspaper reporter), I have experience writing in Spanish in a professional setting, and I have experience working on deadline. Then there's the academic credentials...
...Maybe my life experiences, essays and personal statements didn't measure up? I was disappointed, of course, but I also couldn't help but to wonder what exactly about my qualifications didn't measure up.
I made the cut for another open position, but that rejection has bruised my mojo a little, lol. I just have to move on. Best of luck in your job search!

Julio; my guess "We-Military and former military" are not enough for the State Department! I didn't even made it out of the gate. Even thought, I speak fluently, read and understand four languages. I've a BA in Homeland Security, an MBA which I graduated Magna Cum Laude from one of the best University in the U.S, and pursuing a PHD from an Ivy League School; 30 years of Active Duty Service, 6 Deployments, 24 years Overseas, Inspector General for the European Command, and 94 countries visited, yet,I didn't even made it out of the first round. "The board determined I was not qualified for it"
Though, Do You still believe the State Department really provides job opportunity for Military Veterans? That's a joke!!!!!!! I would love to be part of the Inspector General Investigation and really look into it

First off, thank you for your service. On a different note, it's kind of hard to take you seriously about your academic achievements when 2 out of your first 3 sentences contain serious misspellings. Oh, and about the rant of the State Dept. not "providing opportunities" - BUCK UP and realize that maybe, just maybe there were people more qualified to be diplomats.
