What type of physical fitness events are tested? Is there information out there regarding how potential DSS SA applicants can train in preparation for FLETC and the physical fitness tests?

The training is not part of the initial application process but it is part of the hiring process. Once an applicant receives a “conditional offer” receives their clearance(s), medical and pass the Final Review Board and their name is reached on the “register” then they receive a “final offer of employment” and are scheduled for orientation and eventually go through FLETC. They must pass the physical requirements however. If they do not then they are recycled and given one more chance to pass.

Once Agent candidates report for training at the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center (FLETC) in Georgia, they will be given physical performance standards that essentially are how many sit ups, push-ups, and how much time for a 1 and ½ mile run. Those standards are gender and age based. Normally candidates are given that physical test in the first couple of days at FLETC so they can see where they stand. By the end of almost 3 months there (during which time they are given time to exercise almost every day) the candidates take the test ‘for score’ and must meet those standards. It is rare that someone does not pass at that point. I hope this information is helpful.

DS RECRUITER: Are the age and gender standards available for public release? If so, can you provide a link or attachment? Warm regards.

Do you have a link for that? A bit hard to track in the simple text. Thanks!

Sorry but I do not have a link for this. I tried to reconfigure again hoping it would appear properly but to no avail I see. Perhaps you could copy the material to a word document and set it up properly so it is easier to grasp.

A Physical Fitness Test (PFT) is administered within a few weeks of beginning training. It includes push-ups, sit-ups, and a 1.5 mile run. All segments of the PFT must be passed in order to graduate. A PFT failure results in a formal counseling and a 10-day window of opportunity to get into better shape and re-take the test. A subsequent failure of a re-test places a student before a review board, which then decides whether to recycle the student, allow them to continue with their class, or terminate their employment.

The bottom line is: arrive for training in good physical condition. PFT failures result in additional training time, added stress, extra scrutiny of fitness for duty, and, in the worst case, potential for dismissal.
