Hi, Randall,

I recommend you contact the Department of State Diplomat in Residence (DIR) closest to your location.  DIRs are senior Foreign Service Officers and key members of our recruitment team. They look forward to speaking with individuals such as yourself about our Foreign Service Officer opportunities, and can offer advice on career tracks, the process, etc.  Please click here for contact info: http://careers.state.gov/officer/diplomats-in-residence

You can learn about the process of becoming an FSO at our website.  The first step is to register for the Foreign Service Officer Test (FSOT).  Just click here to learn about all the steps involved: http://careers.state.gov/officer/selection-process

Be sure to review all the info on Foreign Service Officers at our website before registering.  There are tools to help you determine career track choice, for starters.
