I'm married to a member of our military and he will be stationed overseas for the next six years. I'm also part of the military reserves, and do my duties one weekend a month, two weeks a year. I know the department grants leave, and even military furlough to fulfill my reserves duties, the military also has overseas bases where I can fulfill these duties without traveling too far.

Will the department take in consideration where my husband is/ and will be posted overseas, as well as my commitment to the military during my overseas assignment selections? Should I send the department a copy on my orders as well as my husband's?Would the department post me within a reasonable distance from these military bases overseas?

Thanks!

If you join the Foreign Service you will be worldwide available.  While your husband's duty stations may be taken into consideration, there is no guarantee that you will always be assigned to the same locations.  Sometimes reserve duties can be conducted at the embassy where one is assigned.
