Another important difference from my understanding is that IMTS is generally more of a roving tech type role.

For example, IMS gets posted like an officer does, 1-3 years at a time. The IMTS on the other hand will travel to lots of different posts in those 3 years doing tech upgrades, cable pulls, satellite installs or whatever.
