I am working to put together an internship application and
I am a little confused about what to include in the resume (builder). I have been using the USAJOBS Resource Center as a guide in addition to the US State Dept. brochure on internships. The brochure is not specific about what should be included in the resume, however, I noticed another post on this forum which mentions listing ALL work and volunteer experience. This is different from the recommendation for the resume builder. Below is an excerpt from the website:

From USA Jobs; Resume and Application Tips
Many workers are proud of their careers and feel the information on a resume should reflect everything they've accomplished. However, a resume shouldn't contain every detail and KSA's should only address the question at hand. So be judicious. If your college days are far behind you, does it really matter that you pledged a fraternity or delivered pizza? The editing step will be difficult if you are holding on to your past for emotional reasons.

As an older applicant with a long and varied job history, it would seem inappropriate to include an exhaustive list of every irrelevant job I have ever held. Please advise.

Be specific while including skills in your resume as resume skills section is very crucial section of your resume.Read the requirements and compare it with your skills. It is always expected one to one mapping between the requirements and skills. You can check the link to know more about it :http://resume-skills.typepad.com/blog/

Jessica - the other respondents have provided very good advice. You need to demonstrate you have the skills, background and experience that will allow you to add value to your office/embassy of assignments. The selecting officials will be reviewing countless applications. You need to present yourself as the best pick for the position you're after.

I had read an article which said that mentioning irrelevant job history is easy than to answer the questions about job gaps during job interview. If you do not mention job history, then you give the interviewer a chance to scrutinize you on the topic of job gap. SO be careful while doing so.
