    Job Summary:
    The position is located in the Office of Aviation, Bureau of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs (INL). INL is responsible for minimizing the impact of international crime and illegal drugs on the United States by providing effective foreign assistance and fostering global cooperation. Included in the INL portfolio is the mission of developing policies and programs to combat international narcotics and crime. INL programs reduce the entry of illegal drugs into the United States and combat crime which complement counterterrorism efforts, both directly and indirectly, by promoting modernization of and supporting operations by foreign criminal justice systems and law enforcement agencies charged with the counter-terrorism mission. The Office of Aviation is an integral and indispensable component of these efforts due to the critical importance of aviation assets in the successful execution of these missions. The Director of the Office of Aviation reports to the Deputy Assistant Secretary, and works closely with the Assistant Secretary and other Deputy Assistant Secretaries on myriad issues related to the Bureaus worldwide aviation counternarcotics program as well as general aviation support to Embassies Kabul and Baghdad. The Director manages a program involving approximately 900 million dollars in projects and contracts, supervising the work of 20 Civil Service employees and approximately 46 Personal Services Contractors and over 1,900 contractor personnel. In addition, the Director has oversight responsibility for approximately two hundred active fixed and rotary wing aircraft, of both civilian and military design. Persons selected for initial appointment to the career Senior Executive Service must have their Executive Core Qualifications certified by an Office of Personnel Management Qualifications Review Board prior to appointment and will be required to serve a one-year probationary period. Recent Graduates Program

This new program targets recent graduates of trade and vocational schools, community colleges, universities, and other qualifying educational institutions or programs. To be eligible, applicants must apply within two years of degree or certificate completion. Veterans who, due to military service, were unable to apply for positions, will have up to two years from their release or discharge from active duty, not to exceed six years after degree and/or certificate completion. Successful applicants will be placed in a one-year career development program.
