The Department of State is pleased to announce that we are now accepting applications for the 2009 Diplomacy Fellows Program for the competitive selection of entry level Foreign Service Officer Candidates. The vacancy will close at midnight on July 31, 2009. All applications and accompanying required documents must be submitted by the deadline. Applications and other documents received after this time will not be accepted.

The Diplomacy Fellows Program is a program designed to advance candidates who meet the requirements below to the Foreign Service Oral Assessment.
General Qualifications for the DFP Program:
- You must be a U.S. citizen
- You must be at least 20 and not more than 59 at the time of application
- You must be available for worldwide assignment
- You may not have been separated from the Foreign Service under certain sections of the Foreign Service Act
- You must have finished your program requirements within five years of the vacancy announcement closing date.
For example: January 1, 2004 – July 31, 2009 are the dates used to determine eligibility for this year’s program.
Eligible Candidates
- American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) Diplomacy Fellows
- Boren (National Security Education Program) Fellows (Boren undergraduate scholars are not eligible)
- Fascell Fellows
- Institute for International Public Policy Fellows (IIPP)
- Pickering Fellows (Pickering undergraduate fellows are not eligible until they have completed all program requirements at the graduate level.)
- Presidential Management Fellows, who have fulfilled their program obligations prior to registration through service at the Department of State or the Agency for International Development.
- Truman Scholars
- Jack Kent Cooke Graduate Scholars
- Rangel Fellows
